The Herakleidon Museum is celebrating its tenth anniversary with the opening of a new space for art and culture. The Herakleidon Museum annex aims to enrich the cultural life of Athens, while complementing and expanding the main direction of the museum. It will open to the general public on Friday, October 17, 2014 with an extensive tribute to the city of Athens, to celebrate the 180 years since it was proclaimed the capital of Greece. The photo exhibition: Metamorphoses of Athens A Photographic Itinerary 1839–1950 is a unique tour of the development of the Greek capital.

SUNDAY AT THE MUSEUM - SECTION: MATHEMATICS AS A GAME: INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS IN MATHEMATICS (in Greek) FOR 1st & 2nd GRADE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

SUNDAY AT THE MUSEUM - SECTION: EDUCATIONAL ROBOTICS (in Greek) FOR 3rd-4th & 5th-6th GRADE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Students of 3rd-4th grade are divided into small groups and learn how to use software to program, and construct simple machines bringing real-world topics and programming to life in the classroom. Students of 5th-6th grade are getting accustomed to the material and the basic potentials of the software and then they become familiar with the multiple construction units and the various functions of the sensors as well as with the motion and rotation motors.

SUNDAY AT THE MUSEUM - SECTION: Let's Go STEM (in Greek) FOR CHILDREN IN ADVANCED & BEGINNERS' LEVEL

The program for children in advanced level addresses to the children that have attended the first period (June 2014), as well as to children that are familiar with complicated mechanisms and the principles that are related to simple machines. In the beginners' level program, children come in contact with the laws of Physics by building simple machines, thus comprehending their basic function and principles.

A seminar on surrealism cannot help but include concepts like dreams, fantasies and associations, that were a source of inspiration for great painters and poets of the early 20th century. In our meetings, we will get acquainted and analyze the works of great painters that represent the movement of surrealism and explore a world full of controversial images, metaphysical areas, dreamlike landscapes and enigmatic symbols. Among the painters to be studied are De Chirico, M. Ernst, R. Magritte, S.Dali, N.Engonopoulos and L.Bourgeois, while special reference will be made to the cinematic surrealism of Dali and Bunuel.
